Aronoff, Rosen & Hunt Mourns the Passing of Stanley J. Aronoff
Aronoff, Rosen & Hunt, LPA is mourning the loss of our beloved colleague and friend Stanley J. Aronoff. He passed away peacefully on January 31, 2024, at the age of 91.
AR&H’s Managing Partner, Tina M. Donnelly, says Stan was the heart of the law firm. Even after his retirement in 1996, he still came to the office every day with a story and a smile. He was always an advocate for the community. He practiced law in the areas of litigation, tort, entertainment, domestic, corporate and strategic planning for 57 years.
Stan was born in Cincinnati and raised in a Jewish family in the North Avondale neighborhood. He attended Walnut Hills High School (Class of 1950) and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in 1954 and a law degree in 1957 from Harvard University before returning to Cincinnati.
Stan was also a powerful force in Ohio state and national politics for more than three decades. Starting in 1961, he served two terms in the Ohio House of Representatives and 30 years in the Ohio Senate. He was proud to chair the Finance Committee for six years, served as President pro temp from 1985–1988 and became President of the State Senate in 1989 where he stayed until 1996.
Stan was always a great friend and advocate for the arts and was honored by three buildings named after him: The Stanley J. Aronoff Center for the Arts in downtown Cincinnati; the Aronoff Center for Design and Art on the University of Cincinnati’s main campus; and the Stanley J. Aronoff Laboratory of Biological Sciences at the Ohio State University Main Campus.
Tina has nothing but kind words for Stan. “He was forever a friend to everyone,” she remembers. “He was very personable and never met a stranger. He was also very humble. Stan was quick to remind people that the ‘Aronoff’ in Aronoff, Rosen & Hunt was not for him but his father. He will be missed.”
